The 1689 London BaptistIntroduction and Index to the 1689 London Baptist Confession
The 1689 London Baptist Confession (LBCF) represents the fullest and most doctrinally pure expression of Baptist beliefs. Based largely on the earlier Puritan Westminster Confession of Faith of 1647, it is representative of the Reformation spirit of Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) as being "the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving Knowledge, Faith and Obedience." (Chapter I section 1, 1689 LBCF)The 1689 LBCF as presented on this web site will be, in its complete form, comprised of 32 articles of faith represented by 32 chapters, along with this index page, a preamble by the Baptist General Assembly of London in 1689, and appendix. Each chapter is divided into sub-sections (1,2,3, etc.), with each sub-section having annotated letter designations within (a,b,c, etc.) linked to Scripture proofs provided in full and linked to this site's on-line Bible. All Scripture is from the King James Authorized Version. The text of the confession is provided un-altered in its original form other than the added navigation links, and as such retains any archaic spellings, sentence structure and so forth.
