Recent Additions and Updates
It occurred to me that since this website is rather sprawling, and since it has thus far been rather slow in development, that it would benefit people returning here to be able to find the new bits without having to go through the entire site treasure hunt style.
So here it is- as I update I will update this page, so all you have to do is select the "Recent Additions and Updates" link on my "Welcome" page or if you are really serious about not wasting time bookmark this page and you can find out at a glance and go directly to the new bits from this page.
The links here will be organized with the most recent at the top in descending order.
- 03/29/09 A Confessional Baptist
- Wow, it's been nearly 2 years since I've updated this website. Frankly, the reasons have been many, including lack of time and struggling with whether or not a non-ordained and un-trained person such as myself should even have a website ministry such as this.
And my HTML skills are really not up to the task of keeping such a large site updated properly. I tried in vain to figure out a way to, for example, have the navigation bar in one place so that if I made changes to it I wouldn't have to go through every single page and update them all. I found Javascript examples of this to be kind of tacky, plus if one's browser doesn't have Javascript enabled then they would have no nav-bar. Frames are rather unnattractive to me even without the borders and scrollers and, well, just look "old fashioned".
The only solution is some kind of server side script like Php and the like, but I'm really too lazy to figure out how to make them work. So, for now I'm keeping the website the way it is with CSS scripts for the look and updating every page with links.
It has been encouraging to see the response this website has got, with people from all over the world visiting including six continents. That's the power of internet communications. I thank you all and I sincerely hope and pray that this site has been both useful and edifying for you all, and has glorified God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Well, now I have an update: I have started a blog over at blogspot and have added a link to the "Welcome!" page and will be adding a button to the nav-bar on each page as I have time. There are near a hundred individual pages here so I won't get them all updated for a few days. The button link and the link on the "Welcome" page bith open a new browser window, so you don't have to leave this site to read the blog.
The blog will be where I post most of my original article content, and it's cool because it archives and categorizes the articles for me so you can find them topically rather easily. If you've had the internet any amount of time you know how blogs work. In addition to my original thoughts there are several usefull lists on the blog as well.
I'm not done with this website! I plan to find ways to streamline the content and reduce the size so it becomes more managable for my one-man crew. I think this will involve combining some pages using anchor tags and the like (anchor tags are links that take you to a selected spot on the same page). Some of the original content badly needs updating and refining. And I need to finish the Baptist Catechism project and have it intergrated with the 1689 LBCF like I had planned.
Thanks again for your interest, check out my blog, and may God bless you and be gracious to you! Soli Deo Gloria!
- 07/22/07 A 15 Minute Tutorial on Calvinism
- Want to know what Calvinism is? Or perhaps you've heard that it is merely the "doctrines of men"? Here's a brief, 15 minute apology for Calvinism using over 80 passages of Scripture alone. The link will be on the 'Welcome' page. If anyone wants to use this script on their own site, email me through the contact form and I will gladly send you the script.
- 07/16/07 Links
- The Lively Links have been completely overhualed with different categories and lots of new links. The links to Free Eduational Resources should be especially usefull, and there is a long list of Reformed Baptist sites. Be sure and reccomend good links!
- 07/15/07 Bible Study
- Overhauled the Bible Study index page and added a bunch of external links to some excellent resouces.
- 07/12/07 APOLOGETICS!
- Finally, after both these years, I've put something in the Apologetics section. Lots of links on several topics, fom these links you can spend hours studying. Look for it to expand with links and sections in the future, as well as some on-site articles. I pray that it will be a usefull resource for God's children and for those wishing to learn more about our family.
- 07/07/07 Theology, Syndicated Articles and Blogs
- The Theology section was due its 2 year overhaul; I fixed or removed all the broken links, and added a lot of new links, added definition headers and indicated Reformed Baptist links with a red letter "B". I have also added Jim Bublitz's Old Truth.com to the syndicated articles and blogs page.
- 07/01/07 The 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith
- It's finally complete! I have also added a descriptive title to each page to help when doing searches. I pray that this resource will be usefull and edifying to God's people.
- 06/20/07 More "Search Center" goodies!
- I have further modified the "Search Center" section of the navigation bar to make it more useful and comprehensive. First, you can now search within individual sub-sections of the A Lively Stone site by selecting the sub-section from a drop down list. To search the entire site just leave the drop-box alone. This makes the 1689 LBCF searchable!
I realized that the "web search" selection for my Free Find search left a lot to be desired, so I included a Google Custom Search for searching the web- but there's a twist: I set it up so that searching for Christianity related things will give preference to Reformed sites first! I think it's pretty cool, Google with a Reformed bias. It will also search the web on any subject, just like regular Google
Next, the Crosswalk Bible Search has been updated, shortening the Bible selection to the ESV, KJV, NASB, and the KJV and NASB with Strong's numbers. When you do a search you go to Crosswalk's site in a new window where you can do advanced searching and read commentaries and stuff.
Last but certainly not least, I have added the Abate Not Reformed Christian Resources Biblical Theology Search. You can search hundreds of Reformed and Reformed Baptist websites and articles from their huge database. A Lively Stone even has a couple of links in there!
Yes, I still intend to add more content to my site! But all this infrastructure work will hopefully make the site more usefull and user friendly. Soli Deo Gloria!
- 06/10/07
- I added an exciting (to me) new feature to the site! Under the Bible Search in the navigation bar to the left is the new "Search Center". Type a word or words in the text field, select the "This Site" radio button and search this entire site (including the Bible) for relevant pages! You can also search the web by selecting "The Web". It works really well, give it a try!
Also included in the Search Center is a site map and a link to an automated "Recent Additions and Updates" page that catologs every change I make to the site.
- 06/09/07
- There's a new link in the main menu on the welcome page. I have created a "mini hymnal" with tunes and lyrics to a few favorite hymns. It opens in a Javascript popUp window where you can select a hymn to listen to then read its lyrics or else minimize the window and listen while you browse. I will be adding the link to the other pages and adding hymns to the hymnal by and by. You will need Javascript enabled and most likely Internet Explorer to enjoy the hymns.

- 05/11/07 Statement of Faith
- I took a little break from my work on the 1689 LBCF to re-do my Statement of Faith page. The reasons are explained there. Included are the Cambridge Declaration, Council of Dort, 1689 LBCF, and an article I wrote on the Ordo Salutis.
